If only this website had the option for my massive notes packet for neuroscience then that would be on here as the only true thing that I am currently reading. PaperbackThird Edition97 pages. The book now includes and interactive CD with a lab section, 3D rotations, interactive anatomy, tutorial on neurologic localization, and quiz. Ok fine so this is more of a joke but it really is the only book that I’m currently reading or supposed to anyways.

The major pathways in the spinal cord are presented simultaneously, rather than in succession, to facilitate comparisons among the pathways.

I thing it’s a good entrance to go deeper in the anatomy of CNS. Refresh and try again. Want to Read saving…. It is unfortunate that this approach is not attempted more frequently in medical education.

Nov 16, Allegra S rated it really liked it. It’s a simple add-on to “heavy” textbooks on neuroanatomy, that offers some nice mnemonics and creative presentation of typical anatomical pearls. Amazing book for both, smple students reading neuroanatomy for the first time and those who want to touch base again. A good refresher to apply basic neuroanatomy to clinical neurology.

There are 31 pairs of spinal nerves and 12 pairs of cranial nerves. No trivia or quizzes yet.

Text diagrams are by the author. This book is not intended to replace standard reference texts, but rather to be read as a companion text before or during the neuroanatomy course, one which will enable the student to rapidly gain an overall’ perspective of clinical neuroanatomy.

The author manages to take a subject that is often complex and present it in a way that simplifies it to the main concepts. I found this to be most useful as a refresher during rotations. They are employed as an educational device, as it is well known that the best memory techniques involve the use of ridicu- lous associations.

I found it very helpful for really gaining an understanding of the structures in the brain, which I could build on as I learned about pathologies.

It is not a synopsis of neuroanatomy; synopses simply condense larger books and are insufficient for the medical student’s needs. Better for the clinical years than the pre-clinical years, although I used it during both. I would recommend using it alongside an anatomy text book until you learn all of the structures that he referenced though. Information then is chemically transmitted to other neurons via con- nections known as synapses.

Also, note that the spinal cord is shorter than the vertebral column ridiculouslg that the spinal nerve roots extend cau- dally when leaving the spinal cord.

A quick read, offers some good mnemonics. Three of the seven categories of the motor and sensory nuclei have been eliminated in the radi- cally different presentation of the brain stem as a modified spinal cord with only four categories of nuclei: This book gives an excellent review of all of the some clinical concepts in a way that is easy to understand.

Might have made it better. Many details are omitted for practical purpose and the author offered some ideas on how to memorize stuff. Ernst Scharrer, just prior to his untimely death, was my teacher’in neuroanatomy at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
